AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MKIIA WORKS REPLICA, 1962

£59,995

  • Specification: modified 2912cc 6 cylinder engine with triple 2” carburettors fitted producing approximately 190 bhp (gross)

Fuel: unleaded with in-line fuel catalyst

This beautiful rare example has considerable history and provenance. It remained in it’s original manufactured form until the late 1970’s when it was stripped and rebuilt to complete works replica specification for track racing purposes under previous ownership, with the proviso that it had to be fully road useable. It was regularly raced with some considerable success.

The original engine had twin SU carburettors developing 131 bhp at 4750 rpm with a top speed of 132 mph.

The car was an Austin Healey Concours winner in 1984, and successfully raced between 1985 and 1990. In the Austin Healey championships 1986-9 it was placed 2nd overall in 1987, 1988 and 1989, driven by Paul and Chris Reece, and Steve Newman.

Under current ownership the Healey is now driven merely for sheer pleasure, has been lovingly cared for and maintained, and retains a comprehensive history file.

BENTLEY T SERIES TWO DOOR SALOON, 1971

Coachwork by Mulliner Park Ward Ltd.

Registration no. 4076 TU

Chassis no. CBH9242

  • Much rarer and arguably far more handsome than the Rolls-Royce version, this MPW-bodied Bentley two-door saloon comes with a copy of the original sale invoice and the full factory specification. Its first owner was one H Clark. The car was acquired by the current owner from a Bonhams auction in 2018 having previously belonged to the Malaysian ambassador, during whose ownership it was maintained by Chelsea Workshop. Details of other owners are on file together with MoT certificates dating back to 1999 and service/maintenance invoices dating back to March 2008. Totalling circa £19,000, these invoices were all issued by marque specialists Frank Dale & Stepsons, and the car also comes with two fully stamped service books, acquired by Clark and Carter Restorations Ltd in 2016, the Car has been recently serviced by them prior to the Sale. Finished in Larch Green with beautifully patinated black leather interior, this rare and desirable coachbuilt Bentley is offered with a V5C Registration Certificate. The most appropriate Crewe-issued registration '4076 TU' is included in the sale.

Rolls-Royce's adoption of unitary construction for its new Silver Shadow and T-Series Bentley necessitated the reorganisation of in-house coachbuilder H J Mulliner, Park Ward to meet the challenge of producing new designs on the Shadow floor pan. The variety of body styles offered was limited to just two - a two-door saloon or similar drophead coupé - the former arriving in March 1966 and the latter in September the following year. Some of the frontal panels were shared with the standard four-door saloon but otherwise the new bodyshells were unique, featuring a distinctive dipping upper wing line with parallel crease, and revised, more rounded posterior. Despite a price some 50% greater than the standard saloon's, demand was strong right from the start, a state of affairs that resulted in the introduction of the outwardly similar Corniche in 1971. At this time, the Bentley marque's image suffered from its not being sufficiently differentiated from that of Rolls-Royce, a situation that would not be remedied until the introduction of the Mulsanne Turbo in the 1980s. The result was greatly reduced sales, making a Bentley of this period a much rarer car than the equivalent Rolls-Royce. For example: between 1967 and 1971, 571 Mulliner, Park Ward-bodied Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow two-door saloons were manufactured compared to a mere 98 of the Bentley version, of which 79 were right-hand drive like this example. Today, however, the revival of the Bentley marque has seen a commensurate upsurge in demand for these rare T-Series models.

BMW 318i E30 CONVERTIBLE, 1992

  • Manufactured new in 1992, the 318i Convertible offered was supplied new to the United Kingdom 3rd of February that year. Finished in the beautiful metallic Glacier Blue paintwork and blue hood, with just c. 24,353 miles recorded on the odometer, this E30 is a rare low ownership example. It’s history includes Jamiroquai and Chris Evans, and residing in current ownership since 2017 when it was acquired from Chris Evans, ownership supported by documents and invoices. Rated by the vendor as ‘very good’ throughout (in terms of bodywork, paintwork, engine, gearbox, electrical equipment and interior upholstery), this example is a pleasingly low mileage and unique ownership car.

Now in its sixth generation, BMW's 3 Series is an automotive phenomenon and unique among the world's executive expresses. Since succeeding the 2002 model in 1975, it has generally accounted for 30 percent of the company's annual car sales, is the bestselling car in its class, almost as well known in America, Asia and Australia as it is in Europe, and has frequently outsold much cheaper rivals. The model's second incarnation, the E30, took to the roads in 1982. During its 10-year production run it could be purchased in no less than five body styles - two and four-door Saloon, five-door Touring and two-door Convertible. Temporarily dropped in 1985, the 318i reappeared in 1991 sporting a new DOHC powerplant. Suspension was independent all round by MacPherson struts, lower wishbones and coil springs at the front and semi-trailing arms and coil springs at the rear. Steering was by rack and pinion.
